The Blood Curse
(forthcoming/in revisions, Adult Epic Fantasy)
The empire of Ikeja was once ruled by a powerful vampyre Ashai, Queen Themi, for a thousand years after the Fall, a cataclysmic event that enslaved the once mighty witches, the enigmatic Fae that served the previous Queen, and the humans. Now, her descendant, Princess Nayima, after falling in love with a Fae, witnesses her father perform a raid on the magical population to ensure the fanged ones’ continued supremacy for thousands of years to come.
Under the threatening hand and the watchful eyes of the fanged ones, Omari lives in the peasant witch town of Davedi, ignoring the call to become a powerful Blood witch because of the death of his father. He cannot shirk his duty when an injured asiman, the bastard vampyre race created by the Ashai, and his witch lover comes to town to buy a spell. He learns that the asiman has been afflicted with a Blood curse, one of the most ruthless spells a Blood witch can cast. With encouragement from his mother, he helps the asiman by casting a powerful spell to counteract the effects of the Blood curse. As soon as he does, the local Ashai ruler destroys his home, kidnaps him to the capital city to serve the Queen mother, and he and his Fae lover, Ikechi, are separated.
THE BLOOD CURSE, complete at 106,000 words, the first in a trilogy, a story inspired by Yoruba vampire legends, told in alternating points of view, is an Adult/Crossover West African inspired Fantasy novel that will appeal to fans of THE CITY OF BRASS by S. A. Chakraborty, SABRIEL by Garth Nix, and AKATA WITCH by Nnedi Okorafor.
